Matala

Matala: small tourist village, where in the 60s-70s hippies visited Matala to live in its famous caves. Every year usually in June the Matala Festival takes place for three days and visitors from all over the world visit Matala to live the unique experience. Matala is usually very busy and there are many shops, restaurants, tavernas, cafes, bars, and supermarkets that will cover almost all your shopping needs.

Accommodation: There are many hotels and apartments to rent in the area.

Beach: sandy beach with blue crystal clear water. The beach is very well organised and there is a parking, sunbeds, umbrellas and a lifeguard is available on the beach.
There are small caves formed in the famous rocks and they provide a unique sunset experience along with Paximadia islands and view to the Lybian sea.





Location: 65km south of Heraklion.
